The visitor to the battlefields of the Great War in northern France and Belgium can still find, along tree-lined rural routes, occasional collections of un-exploded ordnance, remnants of the War that scarred the region a hundred years ago. In the same way, the Battle of Vimy Ridge, iconic for Canadian, yields up a continuous harvest of steel, which challenges our ability to separate past from present, history from memory, celebration from mourning.
